National Educational Technology Plan 2010
Just like the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020, the National Educational Technology Pan of 2010 has goals and recommendations in essential areas of need. The NETP has five areas which include learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure, and productivity. In learning the focus is on making sure that the teaching and learning match to what the needs are for all learners. Personalized learning is needed to meet every individuals goals. Assessment focuses on improving methods for determining strengths and weaknesses for the purpose in improving student achievement. Data must drive decision-making. Connected teaching is the model in area of Teaching in the NETP draft. No longer should teachers "do their own thing" but they need to collaborate with one another and use resources available to them through technology. Also, staff development training should be technology themed. Infrastructure is similar to that of the TLRP. Resources must be available to maximize the potential of technological advances. You need the latest computers to utilize the speed of broadband in internet service and vice versa. Also, the latest software should be available to students, teachers, and administration. In other words, the infrastructure must be comprehensive and connected to each other. This is where I think schools fall short in. We have one or the other but can't seem to get the best of everything all at once. Again, budget is the issue. Last, is the productivity area of need. Appropriate progress of our students need to be monitored from kindergarten until they graduate. The progress should determine our planning at all levels. The NETP is basically a plan that identifies effective strategies and ideas to promote technology. It is a resource for states and districts.
